Glenn Fricker (Spectre Sound Studios) came up with the title of this and a suggestion with the lyrics took it in a vastly different direction. This was my first attempt at writing a Queensryche style song.
lyrics
Born in submission, under the regime
Young left with shattered, remains of a dream
Big brother’s watch guard, not freedom sustained
Disenchanted lineage, the future waits in vain, again!
Read from the new truth, just rewritten lies
To question equals certain death, same face, new disguise
The skilled no place to grow, the sewer no seeds to sew
The artifacts are staled, by the status quo!
No one said it’d be like this!
Sold out, you know we’re down on a future
Been downsized by the counterculture
No hope, ‘cause there’s nothing for you
The age of ashes, balance overdue
Sold to authority, driven by profit and greed
They’ll sell what you really want, save for what you need
Equality under law, won’t come for those who can’t pay
You can’t own paradise, your government gave it away!
You ain’t gonna get too far!
Sold out, you know we’re down on a future
Been downsized by the counterculture
No hope, ‘cause there’s nothing for you
The age of ashes, balance overdue
“Stay in school for a great career”
Was subterfuge, nothing appeared
Born you are, in the machine
The age of ashes, promise unseen!
Fed remains of utopia!
Sold out, you know we’re down on a future
Been downsized by the counterculture
No hope, ‘cause there’s nothing for you
The age of ashes, balance overdue
“Stay in school for a great career”
Was subterfuge, nothing appeared
Born you are, in the machine
The age of ashes, promise unseen!
